Message from a Young Kashmiri

This is a message received by me from a young Kashmiri. I have not disclosed his name for the sake of his security.

I’m from Anantnag,Jammu and Kashmir. .I’ve been living in Pune since 2010.My father is an ex-serviceman.

Article 370 was drafted in Constitution of India in 1954 giving Jammu and Kashmir a special status.

Jammu and Kashmir has always been an area of conflict since 1947 between India,Pakistan and China.

On August 5,2019 Article 370 and Article 35A were revoked and Jammu and Kashmir were divided into 2 union territories namely Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,

Since Aug 5, Section 144 has been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir which has crippled the economy of the region. Large amount of force has been deployed there. People are afraid to talk against the Government. There is a large portion of population there that still does not even know about the revocation.

Students are helpless as they don’t know what to do further.

My Questions to Government & Indians

Why was Article 370 and 35A revoked during the President’s rule?

Why are means of communication still shut there?

Why was this process of revocation done when the people of Jammu and Kashmir were imprisoned in their houses?

The current government says that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are happy. Since the turn of the century, Jammu and Kashmir have never witnesses such a blow to the economy.

In my opinion, the revocation should have been done under the witnessing of people of Jammu and Kashmir. People should be given the liberty to give their opinion. Politicians of Jammu and Kashmir should be allowed to raise their voices irrespective of their sides. But the deployment of heavy forces doesn’t improve this case.

People of Jammu and Kashmir are suffering. The youths are suffering. Is this fair?
