As Vishal Shahi, a proud three-time SSB recommended candidate, I’m excited to share my journey of perseverance and success. My story is one of transformation, made possible by the unwavering support and guidance from No Frills Academy (NFA) and the mentorship of Retd. Col. MM Nehru.
My SSB Experience
After facing multiple setbacks, I finally broke through. On my 5th Navy SSC Tech attempt and 6th CDS OTA attempt, I not only cleared the screening but also secured recommendations.
The psychology tests were a breeze this time. I completed all TATs and WATs on time and tackled 55 SRTs confidently. Though the initial Group Discussion was challenging due to the chaos, I maintained my composure and actively participated in the second topic. Throughout the GTO tasks, I contributed ideas when necessary and worked towards advancing the group. My efforts were recognized when three peers chose me for their command tasks.
My interview, though lengthy, focused mainly on CIQS (Current Issues and General Science). We discussed my past failures and weaknesses, but I remained honest and true to myself – a strategy I maintained throughout the SSB process.
My NFA Journey
Joining NFA in May was a game-changer. Col Nehru Sir identified that my main issue was incorrect picture perception and difficulty in story writing. Following his advice, I started mentally framing stories before writing them down in 3 minutes.
NFA’s holistic approach helped me realise the importance of physical fitness. As I lost weight, my confidence and mental toughness improved significantly. I developed a disciplined daily routine and, on Col Nehru Sir’s suggestion, enhanced my general knowledge and revisited my graduation subjects. This comprehensive preparation proved beneficial during the SSB.
The group activities at NFA were invaluable. Regular participation taught me to remain calm during group discussions while effectively presenting my points. The constructive feedback after each session and the support from fellow NFA members were crucial in my improvement.
My Triple Success
Thanks to NFA’s guidance, my persistence paid off spectacularly:
- Recommended for SSC Navy Tech entry on 5th August 2023 from SSB Kolkata (5th attempt)
- Recommended for CDS OTA entry on 5th November 2023 from 18 SSB Allahabad (6th attempt), securing All India Rank 10
- Recommended for CDS 2-2023 IMA-157 entry on 21st January 2024 from 18 SSB Allahabad (8th attempt)
NFA’s Individual Guidance Programme
The secret to my success lies in NFA’s Individual Guidance Programme. Col Nehru Sir’s personalised mentoring helped me identify and overcome my weaknesses. This tailored approach, combined with regular practice and feedback, was crucial in my transformation from a repeatedly screened-out candidate to a triple recommended one.
To all aspiring officers facing setbacks: don’t lose heart. With the right guidance and determination, success is within reach. I wholeheartedly recommend NFA’s Individual Guidance Programme for anyone serious about their SSB dreams.
Thank you, Col Nehru Sir and NFA, for believing in me and guiding me to this incredible achievement.
Jai Hind!
